Almost six years after the launch of the Windows 10 operating system, Microsoft last night announced the next version of the Windows OS, the company calls it Windows 11.

The new version of the operating system is a major departure from Windows 10 with almost every feature. Windows 11 brings a new UI design, faster performance, new gaming features, a new Windows Store and of course a new Windows logo.

Windows 11 is easy to use with touch inputs and it also supports Android applications. Let's take a closer look at everything Windows 11 has to offer.

New UI design for Windows 11

UI Design

Windows 10 is very outdated in terms of design, especially since its Windows 98 era icons are spread across the UI. Microsoft aims to provide a whole new look with Windows 11, which starts with icons.

The new version of the OS gets the file Explorer, Settings, Calendar, Calculator and all the new icons for each application. This also applies to smaller and less relevant icons you see within apps. For example, all the icons you see in the top panel inside File Explorer are new.

The next big change is that the taskbar in Windows 11 has icons, and has been aligned with the Windows Start Button Center. That means the Windows Start menu now opens from the bottom-center area of the screen. Windows OS is always aligned with the Windows Start button and the left side of the Windows Start menu.

While the icons are aligned with the hub, Windows 11 is similar to MacOS and ChromeOS, with a similar layout. By the way, the Windows Start menu has all the new design, which looks like the app drawer we see on Android devices.

Microsoft calls it Snap Layouts. It basically allows you to resize windows at different levels. For example, when you hover your mouse over the window resize button in an application, you will see six different layouts that can resize the window.

Windows 11 also offers a feature called Snap Groups. In my opinion this is one of the most important features of Windows 11. Snap groups basically remember how you organized the apps on your desktop so that when you connect / disconnect a monitor, the apps will automatically be organized if you left them before.

Faster performance and more gaming based features

Gaming Performance

According to Microsoft, performance is a big focus for Windows 11. The company claims that Windows updates on Windows 11 are 40% smaller, and that the OS is more efficient at installing them.

Speaking of which, updates will now be installed in the background. We hope that Windows users do not need to restart their PC with each new update.

Microsoft is also bringing direct storage technology to Windows 11. This allows the game to be loaded directly into the GPU from the NVM drive. This frees up the CPU to handle other tasks.

Support for the redesigned Windows Store and Android apps

The company shot a new Microsoft Store on Windows 11. It has a new design that makes browsing and searching applications much easier.

It will also have a host of new apps than before Adobe added companies. According to reports, developers will be able to use their own trading machines, and Microsoft will not take a cut from their revenue.

This will draw a lot of developers to bring their applications to the Microsoft Store.

When will windows 11 released?

Microsoft has announced that windows 11 is going to be available to download by the holidays this year, with beta builds starting to go out to windows insiders in the week commencing June 28, 2021.
